ANTH360: Local Knowledges |
This unit offers a detailed ethnographic study of cultural systems in selected parts of the world. In different years we will choose one specific society or cultural grouping and closely examine cultural practices and knowledge systems that shape aspects of everyday life by considering a wide range of historical and contemporary ethnographic materials and anthropological texts. Each year will have a coherent theme for the ethnographic film contact: in 2005 we will focus on distinctive cultures within the Muslim world. (In alternate years this course will focus on India and Southeast Asia.)
