COMP341: Computer Networks |
This unit is concerned with the design and implementation of real-world computer networks. The layers of design are considered, from the physical medium through software protocol layers to the application protocols. The unit examines protocol issues in each design layer including routing, error detection and correction, flow control, connection management, data representation and network security management. As a practical example, the Internet is considered in depth. The unit includes practical work with application-level World-Wide-Web protocols.
Students planning to enrol in COMP341 in 2006 are warned that it may be replaced by COMP347, requiring a clear pass in COMP247.
