ENGL361: Twentieth-Century Australian Literature |
This unit will focus on genres: the short story and the poem, as well as novels and drama (such as Summer of the Seventeenth Doll), or a mixed-genre work (such as Robert Dessaix's Night Letters). The aim will be to examine in detail some of the very different modes of Australian writing developed during the course of the twentieth century. Some themes covered in lectures include: 'Nationalism', 'Modernism', and 'Experimentalism'. Assessment will be by seminar paper and essay.
