LEGL201: Communications and Citizenship: Law and Policy |
This unit will provide students of law and other disciplines with an understanding of current and historical debates about the impact of legal regulation of communications - speech, press, and electronic media (including the Internet) - upon citizen rights and responsibilities. The role of citizens vis-a-vis the administrative regulation of communications content will be canvassed. Constitutional protection, from the 18th century to the 21st century, afforded to free speech in the UK and the United States as well as Australia, will be a central focus.
