MATH339: Real and Functional Analysis |
Topics and problems to illustrate the development of mathematics in the general areas of real and functional analysis. This unit of study is particularly recommended to students majoring in mathematics and to prospective teachers of mathematics. About half of MATH339 will consist of a review of the limit processes of real analysis and an introduction to functional analysis. Topics include metric and normed spaces, completeness, and applications to integral equations. The remainder will comprise topics chosen to give a view of the historical development of the subject and of some aspects of current research.
