MCSI208/308: Building a Better World: Biblical Perspectives on Justice and Social Change |
What does it take to build a better world? And should we even be trying? These questions have engaged Christians throughout the centuries, producing views, strategies, and theological positions as diverse as the church itself. We will begin this unit with a brief overview of the theme of social justice in the Bible. We will then examine the main strategies for social change used by both secular and Christian social movements throughout history, from Monastics to Marx, from Martin Luther King to Midnight Oil, and critically evaluate these strategies from a biblical perspective. Students who enrol in this course will develop the foundation for biblically informed strategies for social change in their world.
