MCSI230: Christian Perspectives on Schooling in Australia |
Why have church-related schools developed in Australia? What are the differences between the various types of schools that broadly identify as Christian? How do these schools relate to the broader culture and the wider educational system? What is the vision of these schools and how do they hope to achieve it? What place does the Bible have in these schools? What does it mean to think Christianly about the nature of the child, community, curriculum, behaviour management, assessment, and commitment and indoctrination? What are some of the dangers inherent in this movement? This unit discusses important issues that arise from a dynamic and sometimes controversial sector of schooling in Australia. It will be of special interest to students considering teaching in a Christian, Catholic, or other church-related school.
