MHPG905: Victorian Religion in Britain and Abroad

This unit explores the question "Why was religion and religious observance so important to men and women in the Victorian era?" The role of religious revival will be examined, together with religion and social class, secularism and the churches, the changing relationship of church and state and the part played by the churches in Britain's expanding empire, with particular reference to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
