PHIL280: Truth and Existence |
This unit will cover a range of issues in the areas of overlap between philosophy of logic and philosophy of language. We will look in depth at issues concerning 'truth'. In particular, we will examine a range of traditional so-called 'robust' theories of truth such as the correspondence theory of truth, the coherence theory of truth, and pragmatist theories of truth. We will examine contemporary deflationist and minimalist theories of truth, as well as identity theories of truth, and will consider the implications of these theories of truth for debates in metaphysics between realism and anti-realism.
