PSY231: Emotion and Social Motivation |
The overall objective of this unit is to critically examine current theories of emotion and social motivation from an integrative perspective that considers the evolutionary, cognitive, and socio-cultural aspects of emotions, motives and behaviours. Some of the topics covered include the nature of happiness; anger and aggression; love, sex, and mating strategies; guilt, shame, and prosocial behaviour; empathy and compassion; and the role of emotion in adaptive human functioning.
Evening students will be able to obtain tapes of the lectures from the Centre for Open Education, but must attend the practicals/tutorials.
