SOC231: Art, Individuality and Exchange |
(Also taught as part of the BCA program.)
The course will examine the relationship between art and money, art and the image, art and subjectivity. The way that these components interact in human relationships will be of particular focus. We ask whether art and money can be reconciled with each other; or whether the artistic element must be viewed as distinct from market considerations. Similarly, the relationship between art and the image will be examined in light of the formation of individuality, society and subjectivity.
