SOC383: Governing Life |
Governmentality is a new field of study in the social sciences concerned with the changing techniques and ways of thinking about governing individuals, collectives and populations. This unit examines such issues as economic rationalism, neo-liberalism, markets, risk, empowerment, dependency, community, identity and audits. It also sketches a history of forms of government and of the rise and decline of the welfare state.
