SOC392: The Sociology of Music |
This course will be divided into three sections: (i) the nature of music in history and time; (ii) the role of music as a cultural marker, political force and 'illegal harmony'; (iii) and music and cultural worlds: Classical, Jazz, Avant-garde, Pop, Rock. This section will also look at how value is constructed in these music worlds, focusing on the self-identity of musicians, reward structures and audiences.
