SOC810: Knowledge. Power and Policy |
This unit considers the nature and use of knowledge and power in the processes of policy development and the activities involved in governing contemporary societies. You will examine basic concepts and frameworks of law and government and consider the increasing shift towards decentralised forms of governance in place of order, hierarchial systems of centralised authority. You will also have an opportunity to consider the 'governmentality' approach and develop your ability to identify and analyse different discourses underlying policy. The unit provides and opportunity to review the application of a number of contemporary administrative techniques and technologies, such as risk management, contracting, auditing and accounting, individualised service delivery, community care and customer focus.
