SOC830: Research Design Practicum |
This unit is intended to enable participants to design and undertake research projects of their own, as well as to evaluate research studies undertaken by others. In practical, seminar style classes, it provides you with an understanding of the nature of social research and the principals which underlie the design of effective social research projects. You will learn how to use a variety of research designs, from case studies and ethnography, through to surveys, evaluations, longitudinal studies and quasi-experiments. You will also gain experience developing a simple survey, from generating and piloting questionaires, through to coding and analysing data. Working under supervision, you will be expected to develop a research proposal on a topic of your own choosing by the end of the course.
