TEP423: English in the Secondary School I |
This unit focuses on the contemporary role of the teaching of English in a secondary school context. Emphasis is given to the classroom application of current theories of literacy and language learning. The NSW syllabus documents for Stages 4 and 5 and Stage 6 are examined in terms of outcomes, programming, assessment strategies and resources. A variety of approaches explore the nature of student centred learning in English. Key issues considered include the writing process, popular culture, the visual and the verbal, adolescent reading and the role of technology.
All work in TEP423 is closely coordinated with TEP414.
