ABST210: Aboriginal Prehistory |
This unit deals with the interpretation of Aboriginal prehistory, beginning with the biological and geographic origins of Aboriginal people and concluding with early contact history in the Sydney area. Topics covered include Aboriginal perceptions of the past, initial colonisation of Australia, adaptations of hunter-gatherers to the Australian environment, changes in settlement patterns over time, and interpretation of ethnographic data. Archaeological techniques will be evaluated, and these will include site survey, excavation, and analysis of stone, bone and shell art.
