CBMS207: Spectroscopy, Kinetics and Macromolecules

In studying chemistry we are concerned with the properties of materials in terms of fundamental concepts. Modern chemistry provides tools for elucidating structure at the molecular scale, for understanding the way in which reactions occur, and for analysing complex molecular systems. Chemists can determine the structures of simple molecules through to large assemblies, such as metal complexes, biological macromolecules and industrial polymers. This unit will explore some of the methods used to do this. Spectroscopic techniques and chemical kinetics receive particular attention in the laboratory component of this unit.
