CBMS223: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology I

On campus sessions : 18-19 April, 29-30 April, 3 June.

This unit provides an essential background of biochemistry and molecular biology for the modern biologist. Lecture topics include structure of biological macromolecules, principal pathways of intermediary metabolism, flow of energy within cells, biochemical basis of DNA replication and transcription, and protein synthesis. The unit emphasises the interpretation of quantitative data and the experimental basis for our current ideas and developments in biochemistry and molecular biology. Laboratory practical sessions will be alternated with tutorials covering lecture and practical topics.
