ECDO200: Careers and Work |
Careers and Work enables students to recognise, create and continuously develop their own career opportunities. This unit consists of six integrated learning modules that introduce students to career concepts and workplace systems. We look at the impact of demographic, economic, social, organisational and globalisation factors on the world of work and on personal career development; we examine notions of personality, interests and values on individual career patterns and study a range of decision making skills to develop career maturity. We conclude the unit by examining the nature and processes involved in managing careers to maintain high employability through career enhancement.
This unit offers a unique opportunity to engage with career planning in an online format. Student reflection is encouraged throughout the unit. Anyone familiar with using computers and email communication can participate in this unit. Weekly online discussions will frame student learning as they post journal reflections, evaluate the content and activities, complete a career action plan, a statement of their career philosophy and develop a portfolio, in an effort to construct their understanding of the content and concepts. In addition to these discussions, participation in two on campus sessions forms part of the assessment for the unit.
