GEOS371: Geographic Information Systems: Technical Issues |
This unit builds on concepts and skills learnt in GEOS264. The aim is to provide students with an understanding of more advanced GIS techniques and experience in the implementation of GIS. This unit increases a student's breadth and depth of GIS knowledge and skills enabling them to apply GIS in a wide range of employment areas.
The unit is divided into four modules. Module 1 covers more advanced remote sensing techniques. Module 2 examines the analysis of continuous surfaces in GIS and in particular the use of terrain data. Practical work applies the techniques covered in these modules to investigate change detection using remotely sensed data. Module 3 deals with planning applications involving census data. Module 4 involves advanced topics in GIS including ArcObjects, Geodatabases and ArcIMS. The lecture and practical programs are supported by a tutorial program.
