GEOS397: Applied Palaeontology and Biogenic Sediments

This unit focuses on using past life forms to solve environmental and geological problems. It is essentially a practical unit, with fossil and recent materials being used to elucidate problems concerning databases, biotopes, biofacies, proxies for climate change, palaeotemperature and palaeobathymetry, changes in vegetation and biodiversity, and the principles and importance of chronologic alignment and isotopic signatures. The unit is especially useful for students interested in the environment, quaternary geology, biology, geology or palaeontology.
