HIST112: An Introduction to World History |
HIST112 will be of interest to students from all parts of the University. While most history courses look in detail at a particular country, theme or period, HIST112 surveys history on the biggest possible scale. It begins with the origins of the universe and goes on to tell a series of linked stories about the origins of the stars and planets, the earth and its inhabitants, human beings, and various types of human societies, to the present day.
Questions range from how and when was the universe created to what practices and ideas give shape to the modern, capitalist world. We shall also ponder the similarities between 'big' history and traditional creation myths. Those enrolling in this unit externally should have regular access to the Internet.
