This unit consists of a small project component about Japan and two weeks of Japanese language and cultural study in Japan during the mid-year break. Students will experience full immersion in a living language environment, and stay at Japanese homes in the country-side. Assessment will be based on several tasks including an essay, presentations and oral examination. Pre-requisite for this unit is JPN111.

This program is designed only for eligible students of the Graduate Certificate of Introductory Japanese Teaching Course. This is a three week in-country study program at the Japan Foundation Japanese Language Institute at Urawa, Japan, during the summer vacation. In-country study will include oral/aural Japanese skills, teaching methodologies and a cultural study tour of Kyoto and Nara. Graduate Certificate students, who are not eligible for the In-Country Program, can attend a one week intensive course at the Japan Foundation Language Centre at Sydney.
