JPN223: Manga and Representation of Identity |
Manga (both printed and animated), combining visual art forms with a strongly narrative-driven structure, portrays a large diversity of human activities through which it manifests a particular focus on issues of individual identity. Following JPN123 Japan's Contemporary Culture through Manga, this unit will provide a close examination of manga's rich and profound representations of issues of identity, paying particular attention to the fashioning of self and the individual's quest for subjective agency. This unit will be conducted in English, no prior knowledge of Japanese language is required.
