JPN378: Japanese Research Option

This unit aims at providing students opportunity to acquire deeper understanding about Japan through research on a particular subject. It is a compulsory unit for students who are undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Japanese. The unit is also open to other students. It is a one-semester unit, offered in both the first and the second semesters. Students will, after choosing a topic of research in consultation with the unit coordinator, undertake a research project under academic supervision and, based on the result of such research, write a thesis. Within the framework of Japanese studies, research topics can be chosen from a wide spectrum of Japan-related fields including (but not limited to) Japanese culture, history, social and contemporary issues, mass media, socio-economic issues and international relations involving Japan.
