LAW440: Land Use Planning Law

This unit examines contemporary issues in planning law, with particular emphasis on the regulation of land use under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW) and of items of cultural and natural heritage under that Act and under the Heritage Act, 1976 (NSW). The Unit will provide an understanding of the workings of land use regulation in New South Wales and the underlying environmental, social, cultural and economic objectives of the key legislation. A critical analysis is undertaken of the effectiveness of the current regulatory regime including reform proposals and options. Discussion and analysis of relevant case law with practical examples of planning issues are included.
