LAW521: Health Law and Ethics

This unit examines the interaction of the laws of tort, contract and criminal law with the medical profession(s). The regulation of health care is also studied, as is the impact of human rights on the allocation of health care resources. The ethical dimension of health care is also examined as well as its interaction with legal regulation. Case studies will be employed in the subject with emphasis on controversial topics such as euthanasia, the legal status of the unborn and medical negligence.
