PHIL354: Seminar Unit in Philosophy |
This unit is intended to provide students who have a good background in philosophy with the opportunity to work in a special area of interest at a higher level. It is particularly useful as a preparation for students who intend to do Honours or Postgraduate work in philosophy, although any student with a good background in philosophy who wishes to specialise in an area of philosophy at a higher level may enrol in this unit upon obtaining special permission prior to enrolment from the member of staff convening the seminar unit. Students who take this unit will typically join an honours/postgraduate seminar in their area of special interest. Students will be required to attend a weekly, two-hour seminar; to write a research project (usually of approximately 5000 words) under the supervision of the unit coordinator; and, in some units, to present one seminar paper.
In 2006 the honours/postgraduate seminars on offer are likely to include a selection from the following areas: Metaphysics; Philosophy of Mind; Philosophy of Psychology; European Philosophy; Social and Political Philosophy; and Contemporary Ethics/Moral Psychology.
