PSY315: Perception

Recent research has seen a rapprochement between different approaches to the study of mechanisms of human perception including animal neurophysiology and human psychophysics. This unit deals with a number of advanced topics in perception, concentrating on current research in vision, including recent evidence for parallel processing in higher areas of human and monkey visual cortex and recent work on the mechanisms of attention, orientation perception, motion, etc. Depending upon staff, other topics such as general theories of perception may be included. An important component of the unit will be a research report to be completed by each student.
