ACCG223: Contemporary Dimensions of Financial Accounting

This unit provides an intermediate level of coverage of the principles and concepts relating to financial reporting. This unit builds upon introductory accounting by exploring financial reporting issues in greater depth. The unit provides an evaluation of various theoretical issues where you will be challenged to question the foundations of financial accounting and to think critically about current issues in financial reporting. Students will explore specific financial reporting procedures and consider the theoretical foundations for these procedures. Corporate collapses, fraud, and other interesting contexts will be used to understand the importance of reliable financial statements. By the end of the unit students will have improved their knowledge of financial reporting with respect to both the preparation and interpretation of complex financial reports. Students will have enhanced their ability to analyse accounting issues and communicate results of their analyses, and will be better prepared for undertaking advanced study in financial accounting theory and practice.
