BIOL346: Bioscience Ethics and Reproduction

The purpose of this unit is to increase awareness of self in an environmental context. Part I provides an overview of topics such as the treatment and causes of infertility, growth and maturation, parental behaviour and neonate biology and examines the effects of procreational biology on the foundation of human social structure. Part II deals with reproduction as it relates to health and social issues and reinforces the role of biotechnology in the rapid advancement of human achievements in medicine and veterinary science. Topics include stress, fertility control, teratogens, human dominated ecosystems and global responsibility. Other topics emphasising life-style stresses include nutrition, long-term metabolic regulation and health, immune regulation the state of well being.

Laboratory work will be carried out in block practical sessions for both internal and external students and are compulsory.
