BIOL374: Biodiversity and Conservation

This unit has two basic themes: First, the scientific theory and experimentation that investigates and informs the conservation of biodiversity, and secondly, the interface between the science and the prevailing economic, political, social and legislative issues. Topics include the concept of biodiversity, experimental design, conservation technologies, threats to biodiversity, population viability analysis, reserve design and selection, restoration, off-reserve conservation and monitoring. Laboratory work, for both internal and external students, will be carried out in a compulsory block practical session.
