CBMS300: Molecular Biotechnology |
Molecular Biotechnology has a strong contemporary flavour. Lectures will link Functional Proteomics/Genomics to Biotechnology with several examples and address selected aspects of modern Biotechnology. The lecture topics highlight, for example applications of surrogate hosts for commercial scale protein production targeting environmentally and pharmaceutically important gene products. The importance of cell biology and proteomics to drug discovery and disease and the use of fluorescence and high throughput methods in drug and protein discovery will also be discussed. Hands-on practical work will include contemporary molecular biology experiments.
