CBMS809: Biochemistry |
The unit examines the regulation at different levels of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism. Subject areas discussed include Michaelis-Menten enzyme kinetics, allosteric enzymes, feedback inhibition and covalent and other modifications of enzymes. Other topics dealt with include the transport of molecules across membranes and macromolecular degradation. The unit also includes discussion of the importance of weak interactions in biological systems, the structure of water, protein folding and the properties of large molecules in solution.
