COMP340: Systems Engineering Project |
The objective of this unit is to impart to students a concept of the project process and the many activities that must come together in a successful systems-development project. Students form project teams of four or five persons who work closely with a project sponsor and an academic supervisor throughout the year on a project specified by the sponsor. Sponsors come predominantly from industry, though sponsored projects from other organisations are acceptable. Though the projects should have a significant software-engineering content, there will always be a strong systems-engineering emphasis underlying the project goals. There is a strong focus on the application of sound project-management principles, teamwork and dealing with customer requirements, as well as coming to grips with the underlying technical issues to the extent necessary to produce a successful project outcome.
Note that this unit is available only to certain students, for whom it may be a core component of their course.
