EDUC105 and EDUC106 provide the foundations to further studies in the School of Education and full-time students usually complete both units in their first year of study. This unit is primarily concerned with the psychology of the teaching and learning process. It includes the study of student characteristics such as cognitive and social-cultural development, and environmental factors such as the relationships between teachers and schools and their effect on student learning. The unit focuses on development among school-aged learners, but broader applications to lifelong learning are also considered. Those who have a general interest in human development and learning processes would benefit from this unit.

EDUC105 is offered in both semesters. In Semester 1 the unit is offered in day (D1) or external (X1) mode. D1 students are expected to attend lectures and compulsory weekly tutorials. Two compulsory on campus days are offered to X1 students. The unit offers online learning facilities and includes compulsory online assessment tasks in generic skills.

In semester 2 the unit (X2) is offered externally (via lecture tapes and online i-lecture mode). X2 students must attend two compulsory on campus days. The unit program includes e-learning material and online assessment.
