ELEC166: Introduction to Electronic Systems

An introductory unit, describing some of the principles underlying the application of electronics in modern society; powering of electronic systems; basic electronic functions; electronics for control of various processes; electronics in communication systems, information transmission and manipulation, entertainment and other systems. It is recommended for students not intending to proceed to other Electronics units, but is essential for further study in electronics. Intending students should be aware that, although there are no formal mathematical prerequisites for ELEC166, it will be assumed that all students have a good knowledge of basic algebra and will be able to deal confidently with simple problems using graphs and functions (including trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic).
