ELEC345: Communication Networks |
This unit examines the technology down to the hardware level needed to implement modern data communication networks including local-area, wide-area and wireless networks. After introducing core concepts such as the OSI reference model and communication protocols, it examines the construction and operation of network devices and links and, using a systems approach, the principles and techniques needed to combine this technology into an effective system. In doing so it examines network performance, network traffic requirements, quality-of-service issues and network management.
