ELS202: Information Management and Museums Practice |
Field excursion 1-2 September (F) 2007
This unit explores the philosophy of information organisation and the role of museums with emphasis on the preservation of natural and cultural heritage; the collection, preservation and provision of access to materials; mushrooming of stored knowledge related to digital storage of data: image capture, written materials, links to other sites; social and political background to information storage; copyright issues; and the role of curators in research, teaching, exhibitions and community outreach. Students will gain practical experience with digital curation of collectibles, for example, AdLib and/or BioTrack and explore Web based presentations, for example the Lachlan Macquarie Room.
