This unit provides an interpretation of environmental planning as an integration of land use planning and environmental assessment. It includes the origin of both town planning and environmental systems analysis; the dominant paradigms, literature on theories of planning, government, and property rights; the structure of planning systems; the relationship between environmental impact assessment and land use planning.
