HLTH200: Contemporary Health Issues |
This unit provides an introduction to the multidisciplinary field of Health Studies and canvasses key and emerging health issues in contemporary society. Topics covered include: health and inequality; indigenous health; legal and ethical perspectives on health and health care; health and the media; health promotion; national security and infectious diseases; and the effects of globalisation on health. The unit aims to situate day-to-day debates about individual health issues in their broader context. As a core unit of the Bachelor of Health program, it is also open to students from the wider university community interested in contemporary health issues.
