HLTH400: Theoretical Foundations of Health Studies

This unit enables Bachelor of Health (Honours) students to explore contemporary conceptual frameworks and approaches to research in the interdisciplinary field of Health Studies. We canvass the diversity of theoretical perspectives on 'health' -- biomedical, social, psychological, geographical, political, and anthropological -- in order to both appreciate and critique their contribution to the field. We also explore the range of research methodologies and approaches used by researchers in the field of Health Studies (qualitative and quantitative, independent and collaborative, disciplinary and interdisciplinary), with a view to informing and situating our own research practice.
