ITEC102: Networks and Data Communications |
This unit examines data-communications concepts, practice and technologies, most particularly in the context of their application to communication networks in organisations. Topics include protocols and standards, the OSI model, network switching and routing, LAN and WAN topologies, network hardware (such as routers, modems, repeaters and bridges), public telecommunication-based data services, system security and network management. The unit also serves as an introduction to Internet protocols and architectures.
From the organisational perspective, we examine the role, management and regulation of telecommunications systems within and between organisations.
