LEGL100: The Common Law Tradition |
This unit introduces students to the history of the common law, with special emphasis on its distinctive characteristics and contributions to the ordering of social life. The mechanisms by which the common law evolved historically and how it interacts with specific cultural, political and economic forces will be analysed. The growth and development of case and statutory law will provide background. Students will undertake a small research project based on a court visit.
