LING969: Teaching English for Academic Purposes |
This unit examines the origins of academic English and explores the lexicogrammatical features, the epistemic functions, and the genres that make it such a distinct and complex register. Students examine both spoken and written texts, and can (within certain limits) focus on issues of particular interest and relevance to themselves. Different pedagogical approaches are evaluated.
