MCSI242: The Journey Towards Healing: An Introduction to the Process of Counselling |
Classes are held off-campus, contact MCSI for details.
The process of counselling involves walking with the client on the journey towards healing, using various skills and techniques to elicit appropriate reflection and insight along the way. This unit provides an introduction to the counselling process, examining biblical and secular perspectives on the journey towards healing, theoretical and practical elements of the counselling process, the working alliance between the client and the counsellor, and some specific skills which are needed to facilitate effective interpersonal interactions. The unit will also consider the boundaries of the counselling relationship, the legal and ethical responsibilities of the counsellor, and appropriate parameters for referral of clients to other mental health or medical practitioners.
