MCSI810: Beliefs, Values and Cultural Narratives: Education and Worldviews |
Almost every aspect of the educational environment is founded on a set of beliefs and values, which may be clearly articulated and overt, tacitly assumed, or unconsciously adopted. Many aspects of school life, such as teaching and learning, curriculum, administrative policy and school culture, will be underpinned by guiding beliefs and values and will be shaped by a range of cultural narratives from within and beyond the school community.
This unit looks at a range of issues around the role of beliefs and values in the context of education and the worldviews which underpin them. It will particularly explore the ways in which schools operating in the context of a specific faith tradition can incorporate distinctive beliefs and values within the context of the contemporary, pluralistic, Australian cultural environment.
