MCSI820: The Theology of Work and the Pastoral Care of Workers |
The unit examines the history of the interaction of Christian and non-Christian views of work from biblical times to today. It considers the theological, social and contemporary factors that have led to a perceived gap between faith and work. Factors like Greek dualism, the exaltation of the contemplative over the active life in medieval times and the reverse today will be examined to give insight into work in the 21st century. The unit considers the divisions between over-work and underwork, between integrated and segmented approaches to work, family and church.
