MCSI870: Science and the Christian Faith

Modernism and the scientific revolution profoundly shapes the way we view the world and ourselves. Recently post-modernism has influenced the wider community. Little dialogue exists between modernism and postmodernism. Where does the Christian or other thoughtful enquirer stand in this debate? This unit explores the history of the scientific revolution and considers whether the Christian or other religious worldview is compatible with the scientific worldview. Relativity and Quantum Theory, an area in which the general population and even the scientific community is struggling to catch up, is considered. The profound change in our understanding of the cosmos, time, space, matter, and ourselves, caused by these theories is explored in a non-technical manner accessible to both scientists and others with limited university science background.
